The largest and highest island in the Canaries is Tenerife. Mount Teide stands an impressive 3718m above sea level and is the highest in Spain. Tenerife’s past can be seen in the landscape with black rock colours stemming from its volcanic history. Tenerife enjoys a variety of microclimates and is often referred to as a mini continent. To the north, steep cliffs drop away to the sea. Moving south the landscape drops down to a level coastal plain one of very few places in the entire region.
Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos can be found in the south and is suited to the younger visitor and has many restaurants bars and nightlife. For the more mature crowd Puerto de la Cruz is quieter and cooler area to relax and enjoy what Tenerife has to offer. There are a wide variety of beaches to choose from, but the most spectacular can be found at Playa del Roque and Playa de San Juan with their Black sandy stretches.
For the explorers climbing, mountain biking hiking are all available and for the more extreme paragliding is on offer.
