Gran Canaria the third largest island in the canaries is located about 130 miles off the coast of Morocco aptly named the round island. Its capital city Las Palmas sits at the north eastern end of the island. There is a mountain range in the centre of the island that reaches at its peak approximately 2000m above sea level. Its landscape consists of desert, semi tropical forests and mountainous terrain. It has a great climate where you can sit on the beach sunbathing whilst looking at the snow capped peaks of the mountain range behind you.
The capital has the best urban beach at Playa de las Canteras and beautiful architecture. The Caldera de Bandama, a 220m deep volcanic crater is a sight worth seeing, giving you an indication of the islands past.
