Sotogrande is a luxury estate/resort 2000 hectare in area that was founded in 1962 by Colonel Joseph McMicking. It boasts unspoilt sweeping Mediterranean coastline, wide tree lined boulevards and low rolling hills. Sotogrande is renowned for its low-density developments giving it a luxury appeal. Sotogrande is located between the Marbella Golden mile and Gibraltar; it has easy access to Puerto de la Duquesa, Estepona and Alcaidesa. Malaga, Jerez and Gibraltar airports are within easy driving distance.
Sotogrande boasts some superb golf courses. Valderrama is the most famous; it hosted the Ryder Cup in 1997. The Volvo Masters is held there every year in November time. Almenara is a superb golf course with a golf academy and next to the clubhouse is a 5 star SPA resort. The Real Club de Golf Sotogrande is now rated number 5 in Europe.
Sotogrande is also Europe’s hotspot for “The game of Kings” Polo. The Santa Maria club plays host to the Silver and Gold cup tournaments. It attracts people from all around the world and the marina is awash with even more beautiful people for a few weeks.
